Frequently asked questions
We have had children as young as 4 years old starting the MPM curriculum, but the general criteria is if a child is capable of writing their name and digits from 0-9 (including basic counting). Not to worry if your child needs a bit more time to learn, we also have an MPM Pre-K series and our Jelic programme just for them!
Before the commencement of your child’s first class, we have a free MPM assessment to peg your child at the right level so that they can start learning based on their competencies rather than their age level.
Teachers continually monitor every child’s learning progress weekly and will consider a re-assessment if any child is seen to be able to progress beyond his or her work.
MPM Parkway teachers are passionate and trained to support children regardless of their needs in mainstream schools. If a child is seen to still need further support after trying our programme, discussions can be arranged with the parents to explore further options such as extra classes.
The best years to start at MPM Parkway are between K1 and P2. However, we still encourage parents with children of other ages up to P6 to consider joining us as we strive to help them reach their fullest potential.
Being part of KEC means that all our passionate MPM Parkway teachers are dedicated not only to supporting every child's academic growth but also their social-emotional growth in character building and moral development through constant guidance.
MPM lessons are conducted once a week and each session lasts 2hrs. A full list of our available time slots can be found under the SCHEDULE tab.
We have a free assessment before registration which uses materials identical to the ones in our classes and the children can explore and see if they like the questions and format.
Unlike other centres that teach at the whiteboard in front of a whole class, our centre provides individualised materials for students to complete during class. This creates a very independent learning model whereby students first attempt questions on their own and our teachers will walk around to facilitate the explanation of any queries or difficult concepts.
Our teachers are trained to use the zone of proximal development theory and primarily help students by first providing a minimal level of support through the use of questions and slowly increasing the support required until the student fully understands the concept. This builds on the student’s creative and logical thinking processes and teaches them to attempt questions independently with confidence.
The MPM programme originates from Taiwan and has been in Singapore for more than a decade. All of our materials are fully adapted and aligned to the MOE syllabus.
Our materials are in accordance with the MOE syllabus but we also have plenty of international school students join us. We are open to discussions with parents regarding their child’s differing syllabus but most of our students from international schools adjust very well to our programme after the initial assessment.
